About The CuttyCrumb Cat Groomer
I was lucky enough to have grown up in the company of much loved, fabulous felines and continued in that vein all my adult life too.
The realisation that there was a way for me to combine my immense passion for these marvellous creatures with a profession that could contribute to a healthier and more comfortable life for all manner of cats was a complete revelation and a seminal moment in my life.
So, here’s how it all happened.
I have spent an immensely fulfilling thirty-five years working in the equine industry which has taken me all around the globe. I thought I’d be working with horses for the rest of my professional life, I never imagined for a minute that there was something else out there waiting for me.
Our feline family comprises two gorgeous British Shorthairs, Indiana and Harper Lee and a Maine Coon total princess named Lara, whose addition to our feline family was the catalyst behind my decision to pursue a career in cat grooming .
As Lara grew up, it quickly became obvious that here was a cat with a very different coat to those I was used to ! Her long, silky guard hairs hid a monumental double undercoat that seemed to have a life of its own !
Fast forward to the present day which finds me with a nationally recognised Diploma in cat grooming with the IPET Network (this includes feline emergency first aid and business management as well as the skills needed to groom cats safely) Before this qualification became reality in 2018 pet grooming was an entirely unregulated profession and although thankfully there were already some wonderful cat groomers out there anyone could pick up a pair of scissors and call themselves a groomer. What a terrifying thought !
I am fully insured and DBS checked and hold a feline first aid certification which is independent of the IPET qualification. I have been grooming now since the spring of 2023 and count myself lucky to have a whole rainbow of gorgeous cats of all shapes and sizes as my clients ( and their humans are pretty great too !).
I truly believe that regular grooming can transform a cat’s well being. The myth that cats are entirely self sufficient groomers is just that. A myth. There are many reasons why cats may not be able to maintain their coat. The longer or unusually coated breeds find it difficult to manage all that fur ! Age, weight gain, health or mobility issues can all contribute towards a problem coat and it doesn’t end there. You may be surprised to learn that shorthaired cats will also benefit from regular grooming just as much as their longer haired counterparts. The amount of dead undercoat that can be removed from a shorthair is astounding ! So, in conclusion, we see that regardless of coat type, the safe and gentle removal of dead undercoat or painful matted fur allows the skin to breathe and gives these cats the chance to feel like their old selves again.
Cats are my lifelong passion. Every cat I help cements my belief that this is what I was meant to do.
